ACADEMIC TRANSLATION SERVICES
DR. DAVID WEST
Ph.D. University of London
English literature and linguistics
Do you need someone who can translate your academic text into excellent English?
Or someone who can edit or proofread a text that you have already written in English?
Then I am the perfect partner for you.
I will create a text for you that meets your expectations and those of an international scholarly audience.
What I do best
- I have been translating and editing/proofreading academic texts, e.g. books, articles and grant applications, for many years
- My areas of speciality are in the humanities and social sciences
- I have a doctorate in literature from the University of London
- I am myself an author and editor of academic books and essays
I would be happy to talk to you and provide you with a free and non-binding quote. Simply send me your text by e-mail to receive a quote.
TRANSLATION
A translation is not simply a matter of language.
Much more important are the conventions that govern a particular academic genre.
An academic text in German is not the same as such a text in English: they are governed by very different rules.
An academic text in English aims to be reader-friendly, precise, clear and simple.
To write such a text, you need to be familiar with the conventions of academic writing in English.
I have translated academic books published by highly respected international publishers such as Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press.
Simply send me the document to be translated and I will send you a non-binding quote in return.
EDITING/PROOFREADING
I specialise in both editing and proofreading texts.
Editing involves checking texts for consistency of content without changing the meaning or intention of the text.
Proofreading involves checking the text in terms of its style, orthography and grammar.
Simply send me the document to be edited or proofread and I will send you a non-binding quote in return.
HOW IT WORKS
1. SEND DOCUMENT
Send me your text by e-mail and give me a delivery date if required.
2. PLACE AN ORDER
Once I have looked at the text and discussed your requirements with you, you give me the green light to work on the text.
3. DELIVERY
Having completed work on the text, I will send it to you by e-mail.
Academic translations require a careful touch and are based on mutual trust. My credo is therefore to make the translation process as transparent as possible, and I am always open to making modifications and to discussing questions that you have with regard to the project.
